This week we’ve been working in Longton, near Preston on a replacement patio. The flags we are using are Tobermore Textured in Natural 600x600mm slabs. C W Berrys in Leyland are providing the flags, the sub-base material and the laying course materials. The flags are being laid on a full bed of wet grit sand mortar, using SBR and PVA within the water as a bonding additive.
We have freezing temps forecast this evening and so we will start to dry up the mixes slightly this afternoon and we won’t produce another mix after about 3pm, as we would risk the mortar freezing and popping. The slabs will then be covered up with hessian.
The slabs are being butt-jointed to avoid having resin jointing and to keep the cost down. Our clients have had us round to their house on three previous occasions for different projects so it’s a pleasure to be back working for them. The brews are coming very nicely (and the odd choccy biscuit) so we will go the extra mile for them, making sure we work clean and we keep them up to date on progress.
Work is expected to be completed by Friday but we’re at the mercy of the weather and as I’ve been typing this post, the heavens have once again opened up! Keep an eye out on our socials for videos and more content on our progress.
